Current Trend For Spring : Beautifully Bold Hair Color

The latest hair trends include a variety of the most sought-after styles seen in runway shows, on celebrities, and of course, on popular Hairstylists.  One thing is for sure, when it comes to popular Hair Color choices, styles and looks are getting bolder, allowing more creativity to suit the individual. That said, bold color selections are nothing new. Rather, it is the actual placement of color that is makes a statement. The traditional Hi-lite will always be in style, but adding bold color choices provide range from subtle to avant-garde, suiting anyone’s taste.
Salon Boutique Academy Educator Anthony Martinez states “Ombre hair is still very popular, but this season adds an unexpected twist… it’s now being reversed. This new trend features blonde or lighter color towards the root, with a darker color towards the bottom. This new reverse ombre adds a fun, new dimension and can also be done with bold colors.”
So, while you are adding color to your Spring wardrobe, step outside your comfort zone and add a splash of color to your hair. You will be sure to turn a few heads!

Brighten your skin for Spring!

Would you like to have smooth, beautiful skin?  Taking proper care of your skin by cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing with proper ingredients is the first step.  Selecting the right products can be a daunting task considering the large number of mass-retailed skin care products on the market.  We highly suggest making the selection process much simpler by visiting an Esthetician and receiving a skin care consultation.  During your visit, a skin care professional will analyze your skin and use their knowledge of ingredients to suggest the best results-driven products for your needs.  During the visit, they will also suggest treatments and services that can be partnered with a home care regimen to enhance your skin results.

Beauty Trends for Spring 2013

Alas, we do not have a crystal ball to answer the questions of last week (we blame Umbridge). We cannot tell you with any certainty what direction our collective sense of style will take us in the unforeseeable future. We can, however, take a good guess at what the hot trends for the spring and summer will be with a quick glance back at the fall.

Fashion, like music, seems to be at a cross roads and it was evident at NYFW: Spring 2013. Proenza Schouler’s graphic prints turned heads, as did the unexpected stripes and the colorful 60’s inspired silhouettes of the Michael Kors collection. Marc Jacobs reintroduced the grunge that made him famous, but with a refreshingly peppy and preppy update. Oscar de la Renta added a splash of class, and Carolina Herrera reminded us why spring is the most fashionable season.

Bold Brows and metallic shadows are in for spring 2013

Naturally it was the hair and makeup trends that really captivated our sense of creativity. And it was the eyes, of course, that drew us in. Smokey eyes are the mainstay, but metallic shadows added complex dimensions on the runways. Thick black liner is cool, but heavy neon pink and bright aqua blue liner and mascara are hot.

Brows made quite an impression. Whether they were bleached-out or filled-in with dark eye shadow, it seemed everyone had forgotten their tweezers. Yes, bold brows are in, and skinny brows are out.

Natural was the norm to round-out the trends in makeup, fresh faced subtle tones with sheer foundations, neutral matte lips were understated, and nude nails were uninspiring.

Hair took center stage, for us. The ends weren’t split, but the styles were. Many models rocked an unrefined slept-in look with a gritty texture for an urban feel, while most stylists opted for the wet look. Heavy gelled with a clean center part, some twisted in a knot, but most trailed off into crimped waves. Odile Gilbert created a well-deserved buzz with the adept use of her triple barrel curling iron.

Pastel highlights were the highlight, and the dip-dye trend is still in. The week was capped by Alexander Wang’s odd introduction of a sleek strip of tape down the center part, creating an air bender effect that glowed on the runway.

Like all fashion shows, not all the trends are practical, and a few are simply unattractive. But most, however, can be inexpensively duplicated and simplified to fit your lifestyle. In the end, you have to be you, but make a resolution to try something new this spring.

Fashion Trend Questions For 2013

What will the next fashion trend be in 2013

A new year begs us to ask, “What’s the next trend?” It’s interesting to observe the art community and its influence on the collective conscious. It’s a study in the age old chicken or egg conundrum, form v. function. Does music inspire fashion, or does fashion stimulate music, movies and creativity at large? Could it even be something more organic, a cosmic cohesiveness that just happens?

In the late 90’s, did Dave Mathews and Jewel channel the Grateful Dead and Carly Simon, ushering in a folk revival, causing us to let down our hair and break out the bell bottoms and peasant blouses? Or, did sandal clad bohemian fashion designers lead us into the era of au naturale hippie chic?

Who sparked the so-called 2nd wave, the rebirth of the 80’s? Did the neon eye shadow and leg warmers inspire the synthesizers of MGMT, or did the antics of Lady Gaga remind us so much of Madonna that we all decided to strike a familiar pose and let our bodies go with the flow?

One thing is certain, as the Christmas commercials informed us, brightly colored skinny jeans have finally made it to Old Navy, historically the final stop on the fashion train. So now we can look forward to something new, but the question becomes “how new?”

men's fashion in 2012

If it starts with music, the art world seems to be at a crossroad. New acts like Electric Guest and Tanlines have a certain Beach Boy vibe, and the voices of Adele and Bruno Mars are stark reminders of the crooners of the 60’s. Is the retro style of shows like Mad Men behind the shift? Are men becoming more dapper, with a sculpted side part to match their pen stripped suits and mustaches? Are women returning to grace, with pencil skirts and peter pan collars that perfectly accentuate their bobs, buns and bright red lips?

On the opposite side of the street is a prep/grunge amalgamation that is trying to assert its dominance and direct us into a new Nirvana. With starlets donning under-cuts and izods, ripped jeans and riding boots, we can easily slouch into a replay of the early 90’s comforted by the rocking riffs of Django Django, Two Door Cinema Club and Alabama Shakes.

Or, and this is a big OR, will 2013 and the years to follow ring in something completely new and innovative? Will the far out fashion of sci-fi movies like Hunger Games translate to Main Street? Will experimental musicians like Grimes, Alt-J and Tune-Yards open a path that we were not expecting, one that will no doubt be regurgitated in 20 years? We can only hope.

We must also note the two “hip” wild cards. Hipsters and Hip Hop arguably have the greatest influence on the direction of our culture. What would Kanye say if we didn’t mention him, because let’s face it, we all live in a Kanye Western civilization.

Whatever is in store, rest assured Salon Boutique Academy will be here educating the stylists of tomorrow, and Currently will be here to report it. Happy New Year Everyone!

Hair on the Floor

hair program student workLast week we focused on color, including Ombre, hands down the hottest trend for the past few years. This week, however, cutting has taken center stage. Bobs and pixies, double cuts and layers, we have a talented group of students that are dedicated to learning a new craft.

It’s inspiring how much they absorb in the classroom and how eager they are to get on the salon floor and test themselves. Sometimes it works, sometimes not so much, but every time they get behind a mannequin is a valuable learning experience. Likewise, every success builds confidence for when they finally get to stand behind a real world client. Every snip, every set is a step closer to becoming a professional. Every color, every cut is an investment in their future.

We tell students “a color change can be exciting, but a great cut can be life changing.” That’s what we’re all about, at Salon Boutique Academy and the greater beauty biz… changing lives.
